Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced
Controller
to oversee the full accounting function for a leading high‑fashion apparel and retail organization in Downtown Los Angeles. Reporting directly to the COO and President, this role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, and drives efficiency across all accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings both hands‑on expertise and leadership experience within the fashion, apparel, or consumer goods sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month‑end close.
Prepare and review accurate financial statements and management reports for wholesale, retail, and e‑commerce divisions.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with company leadership.
Oversee inventory accounting, costing, and margin analysis across product lines and channels.
Support external audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and professional development.
Partner with executive leadership to provide data‑driven insights supporting operational and strategic decisions.
Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and reconciliation processes.
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
Prior experience in fashion, apparel, retail, or consumer goods strongly preferred.
Deep understanding of inventory accounting, production costing, and revenue recognition.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, creative environment balancing structure with flexibility.
