Banker Development Program
The Amegy Bank Banker Development Program (BDP) Portfolio Management path is a rotational credit and underwriting training program designed to provide a solid foundation in the basics of banking. The program’s Portfolio Management path develops Credit Analysts into well-rounded bankers with strong underwriting, portfolio maintenance, risk management and communication skills. It offers a defined career path which begins with classroom training followed by rotations through various lending and underwriting departments and builds into a Portfolio Manager. The BDP challenges Credit Analysts to grow and develop their skills at a set pace, empowering graduates to launch their career in banking.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
Undergraduate or graduate major in Business or Economics (undergraduate Finance and Accounting majors preferred)
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
6 hours of accounting courses (9 hours of accounting courses, including Intermediate Accounting I, preferred)
Additional Qualifications
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented, organized, analytical, with proven problem-solving abilities
Leadership skills and community involvement
Highly motivated, self-starter attitude
Internship/prior work experience

Program Phases Phase 1: Initial Training Phase
1A: Classroom Classroom training at Amegy Bank’s headquarters in Houston for 4.5 months. Credit Analysts attend 5 weeks of training at Zions Technology Center in Midvale, Utah.

1B: Credit and Special Assets Group Exposure
Cumulative Credit and Special Assets Group exposure in the Houston market for 1.5 months.
TOPICS COVERED
Partner with Credit Risk Officers on underwriting and credit approvals
Observe financial analysis and loan structuring
Learn portfolio monitoring and risk grading practices
Collaborate with Special Assets Group on problem loan management
Understand credit recovery and workout strategies
Phase 2: Rotations
The rotational phase is 13-19 months of on-the-job training through assignments to specific groups in and around the Houston market. Credit Analysts will rotate through 5-7 groups, with each rotation lasting approximately 2.5 months.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to monitor and manage existing client portfolios and shadow internal credit discussions
Underwrite financial analysis and credit packages
Participate in loan approval presentations
Conduct periodic reviews of portfolio credit risk and performance
Attend seminars and ongoing training
Build one-on-one working relationships with high-level decision makers
Support credit renewals and modifications for existing clients
Shadow Relationship Managers in client and prospect meetings as appropriate

Phase 3: Placement
Placement into a lending group as an Associate takes place approximately 19-25 months after beginning the BDP, depending on number of rotations, performance, and staffing needs. Placement as an Associate into a lending group is the monumental conclusion to the Banker Development Program. This placement from the Portfolio Management path is a steppingstone on an analyst’s journey to become a Portfolio Manager, responsible for underwriting, portfolio maintenance, and risk management.
