Position Summary The
Banquet Captain
oversees the successful execution of banquet events, including meetings, conventions, weddings, and other special functions. The role involves supervision of retail concessions outlets and bar service. The Banquet Captain ensures all aspects of service meet or exceed guest expectations through coordination of setup, service, and breakdown while leading a team of servers and support staff.
Compensation Hourly rate: $21.00-$25.00 (based on experience and qualifications).

St. Charles Convention Center
is the finest full-service convention center in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area, featuring over 154,000 square feet of meeting space, including 83,000 square feet of exhibit space. It can accommodate events up to 3,000 attendees and is located minutes from St. Louis Lambert International Airport, surrounded by hotels, historic main street, and local attractions.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate all service staff before, during, and after events.
Serve as the primary point of contact for event organizers and clients during functions.
Ensure accurate setup, service, and breakdown of banquet rooms, buffets, and break stations per event specifications.
Conduct pre‑shift meetings to communicate event details and assignments.
Maintain high standards of food and beverage service and hospitality.
Monitor timing and service flow; troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Train, coach, and mentor banquet staff; lead by example.
Collaborate with culinary, sales, and AV teams for seamless event execution.
Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety of all banquet areas.
Complete post‑event reports and provide feedback to management.
Enforce compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
Assist with inventory, equipment maintenance, and requisition of supplies as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; hospitality or culinary degree a plus.
2+ years of banquet, catering, or hospitality experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
Proficient in reading and interpreting event reports and diagrams.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.
TIPS or ServSafe certification preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
English proficiency required; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Flexible schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
