Job Summary The Instrument Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of instrumentation and control systems in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all instrumentation and process control systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Report to: Engineering Manager

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair instrumentation, control systems, and electronic equipment used in manufacturing processes.

Calibrate and configure instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and analyzers.

Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in process control equipment, using diagnostic tools and testing equipment.

Interpret and update technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, schematics, and control logic diagrams.

Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on instruments and control systems to minimize downtime.

Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, environmental policies, and industry standards.

Assist in system upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement projects.

Collaborate with engineers, maintenance teams, and production staff to resolve issues and improve system reliability.

Maintain accurate records of calibration, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Train operators and technicians on the proper use and troubleshooting of instrumentation.

Qualifications & Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or certification in Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field.

Minimum of [X] years of experience in instrumentation and controls within a manufacturing, industrial, or process plant environment.

Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.

Proficiency in troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems is a plus.

Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO, FDA, GMP).

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&ID diagrams.

Hands‑on experience with calibration tools, digital multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.

Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.

Ability to lift up to [X] lbs and work in various environmental conditions (e.g., confined spaces, heights, hot/cold environments).

Skills

Experience in a food, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment.

Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and automated process controls.

Certification as an Instrumentation Technician (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) is a plus.

Work Schedule

Full-time position with rotating shifts, including weekends and on‑call availability as needed.
