How you will make an impact

This professional position investigates allegations of abuse, neglect, self‑neglect and financial exploitation against vulnerable adults and works to mitigate the risk factors involved. Clients served include those residing in the community and alternative care facilities. Vulnerable adults in crisis need quick action from compassionate investigators dedicated to ensuring their safety, independence and well‑being.

What you will do

Be part of a team dedicated to protecting Florida’s vulnerable adults by meeting national standards for Adult Protective Services investigations.

Prioritize the vulnerable adult’s safety and meet the individual in person within 24 hours of receiving a report.

Coordinate emergency services, including medical evaluations, temporary placement, and court intervention when necessary.

Investigate and prevent allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Gather critical information through interviews, observations, and analysis of criminal history, prior APS involvement and investigative records.

Coordinate with state agencies, law enforcement and prosecutors to deliver justice for vulnerable adults.

Connect vulnerable adults with agency and community resources for wrap‑around services.

Build relationships with community organizations, advocacy groups, medical and law enforcement personnel.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of law‑enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or current status).

Associate degree or 60+ college credits and two years of professional experience (e.g., Guardian Ad Litem, family support worker, group home worker, nursing assistant, EMT).

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Valid driver’s license and reliable private vehicle with proof of registration and insurance.

Ability to attend a 6‑8 week mandatory training course.

Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays and in emergency situations.

Background Screening Requirement

Successful completion of state and national criminal history checks is required. Employment may be terminated based on background investigation results if they are received after hire.

Selective Service

Male candidates born on or after October 1, 1962, must be registered with the Selective Service System before their 26th birthday or have a Letter of Registration Exemption.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Managing time, assessing and intervening in cases involving domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse; establishing effective relationships; documenting and communicating findings.
