Vice President – Senior Debt Team
Selby Jennings, a highly successful and well-established investor in the U.S. middle‑market private debt industry, is looking to add a Vice President to its Senior Debt team in New York, NY. The primary focus is to invest in first‑lien senior secured loans to support sponsor‑led buyouts. The investment team maintains a deep understanding of credit during both underwriting and portfolio monitoring.
The Vice President will manage a portfolio of senior secured loans, including first‑lien, unitranche, and in some cases junior debt facilities. Responsibilities include underwriting, portfolio management, negotiation of term sheets and legal documentation, financial performance analysis, and participation in portfolio review investment committees.
Base Pay Range:
$175,000 – $500,000 per year
Location:
New York, NY
Responsibilities
Underwrite and manage a portfolio of senior secured loans, including first‑lien, unitranche, and junior debt facilities.
Provide oversight and direction on new investment underwriting for junior team members and senior committee members.
Facilitate negotiations on term sheets, grids, and broader credit documents.
Communicate periodic financial performance analysis to portfolio owners and presentation at investment committee and watchlist meetings.
Analyze incremental investment opportunities, evaluate amendment requests, and monitor industry trends.
Recommend follow‑on primary and secondary market investments and aid originators in pitching new opportunities to sponsors.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in investment banking, direct lending, structured credit, or a similar field, with a preference for sponsor‑backed direct lending experience.
Experience underwriting lead opportunities and managing a portfolio of senior debt investments.
Ability to manage multiple live transaction processes, including refinancings and auctions, with attention to detail and the ability to produce detailed summaries and presentations.
Proficiency in negotiating legal documentation, including grids, commitment letters, and credit documentation.
Strong financial modeling skills and the ability to synthesize financial concepts and data for junior team guidance.
