The Director of Commercial Construction Operations is a strategic executive leader responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of the business. This includes market strategy, business development, client relationships, financial performance, and contract oversight. This role demands a high level of accountability, cross‑functional leadership, and full ownership of commercial outcomes. The Director of Commercial Operations is expected to drive sustainable growth, build high‑performing teams, and ensure the commercial organization delivers both top‑line results and bottom‑line performance. Direct oversight of managing a department 15+ ensuring operational excellence, building scalable processes related to infrastructure, marketing operations, and expansion Responsible for guiding and developing operational teams and supporting staff Drives accountability and alignment to meet operational and branding objectives Essential Job Functions
1. Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA)
Lead, coach, and hold the commercial team accountable to performance standards, cultural alignment, and organizational values. Build a cohesive team environment across business development, estimating, and preconstruction functions. Ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and measurable goals within the commercial division. Model integrity, decisiveness, and continuous improvement in leadership practices. 2. Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the long‑term commercial strategy in alignment with company goals. Translate vision into action by establishing clear priorities, timelines, and KPIs. Anticipate market shifts, customer needs, and competitive threats to stay ahead of the curve. Collaborate with executive leadership on company‑wide planning and strategic initiatives. 3. Market and Growth
Identify, pursue, and secure high‑value business opportunities in target markets. Drive customer acquisition, relationship development, and retention strategies. Oversee pursuit strategies, win themes, and proposal execution to ensure a consistent hit rate. Represent the company at industry events, building strategic partnerships and elevating brand presence. Develop and manage commercial budgets in coordination with finance and operations. Analyze project pipelines, contract terms, and bid strategies for financial viability. Monitor key financial metrics across active pursuits and ensure alignment with company financial targets. Implement controls to manage commercial risk and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. 5. P&L Ownership
Take full responsibility for commercial division P&L performance. Ensure revenue growth, margin protection, backlog health, and profitability goals are met or exceeded. Lead data‑driven decision‑making for pricing, deal structuring, and resource allocation. Drive collaboration with Operations and Finance to ensure seamless project transitions and strong execution outcomes. Education, Experience and Training
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred). Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial with proven experience in multi‑family Proven success in leading growth, owning P&L, and managing cross‑functional teams. Deep understanding of construction delivery methods, commercial contracting, and market dynamics. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation skills Mental and Physical Requirements
Ability to maintain focus and productivity in a sedentary role for extended periods (approximately 75% of the time). Regularly operate computers and office machinery with precision and efficiency. Physical ability to navigate multi‑level workspaces, including ascending and descending stairs as needed. Working Environment and Conditions
Primarily an office‑based role, with extended periods of work at a desk and computer. Occasional travel to on‑site locations to oversee operations or represent the organization. Must be able to lift and carry materials up to 15 pounds as required. Valid driver’s license and insurable with company insurance policy Tools and Equipment
