Director of Athletics Inside Higher Ed, Marion, IN – reporting to the Vice President for Student Development and Athletics. This full‑time position leads the NAIA intercollegiate athletic program, representing 24 teams and over 600 student‑athletes, as well as the campus recreation and club‑sport activities.

Summary of Position The Director of Athletics oversees budgets, strategic planning, facilities, compliance, scholarships, promotion, and leadership of the division. The role supports the Student Development team and works closely with academic and athletic departments to uphold the mission of Indiana Wesleyan University.

Duties and Responsibilities

Public Relations

Coordinate external operations with donor, alumni, and family relations.

Partner with the Associate Athletics Director of media communications.

Manage internal operations, including scheduling and contract negotiations for athletic facilities.

Support conference services on sports camps and develop spirit clubs and game-day atmosphere.

Management

Ensure compliance with Crossroads League and NAIA regulations.

Develop short‑ and long‑term strategic plans.

Run systematic staff evaluation and improvement processes.

Institute and update the athletic department policy manual annually.

Collaborate with academic partners on athlete eligibility and campus‑wide initiatives.

Represent the university at conference, regional, and national meetings.

Financial

Prepare and administer the full athletic budget, recruiting budgets, and equipment purchases.

Develop relationships with donors, foundations, and governmental officials.

Identify new revenue opportunities through camps, clinics, and concessions.

Approve all requisitions, vouchers, and checks related to athletics.

Personnel

Hire, train, supervise, and motivate coaching staff, athletics directors, and support personnel.

Coordinate athletic training and student‑athlete health services.

Implement staff reviews, conflict resolution, and professional development programs.

Athletics

Coordinate recruiting, scheduling, and event logistics.

Oversee equipment ordering, uniforms, and pre‑/post‑season travel.

Ensure safe transportation and accommodations for competitions.

Other duties assigned by the Vice President for Student Development and Athletics.

Qualifications

Education : Master’s degree in an applicable field.

Experience : 10‑15 years in athletic administration/coaching at the college level with supervisory experience.

Required Skills : Supervisory aptitude, creativity, planning, communication, confrontation management, and a mature Christian faith commitment.
