ERM has an opportunity for an experienced leader to join our global consulting firm as a
Consulting Director
in our
Air Quality
practice. This individual will have significant consulting experience and client relationships to grow our air quality services business in
Houston, Texas . This is a partner‑track opportunity for an air quality professional looking to further advance their career with a global environmental leader and to make a significant impact in successfully implementing ERM's global strategy.
ERM’s Air Quality service area is a recognized leader in the marketplace. Our technical community pursues and wins highly innovative engagements for the most interesting clients, providing the full breadth of air quality and climate change services. With annual global sales in excess of $50 million, ERM’s Air Quality service area is one of the largest among its peers and is steadily growing at a double‑digit pace. In North America alone, ERM has more than 300 dedicated air quality and climate change professionals assisting clients with projects ranging from strategic corporate approaches to complex capital projects through regulatory programs such as the NSR permitting program.
ERM is structured to encourage collaboration among regional offices, providing opportunities to collaborate with ERM’s national Air Quality technical team to share expertise and consulting opportunities. Our leaders proactively work together to build strategies and campaigns around key business drivers for clients, focusing on high‑profile rewarding projects and building our business in GHG reporting, new dispersion modeling, MACT/NSPS standards, energy management, and climate change adaptation.
As a senior leader on this team, you will be fully accountable for successfully selling and consulting on air quality and climate change projects to build a sustainable business locally, while networking with ERM's global Air Quality & Climate Change technical team to share best practices. The ideal candidate will be well connected in the regulatory and air permitting community and have established relationships with Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical companies to expand our corporate and facility‑level compliance services in Texas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement strategic market/business plans, providing leadership and strategic direction for expanding ERM's air quality service area and client base, particularly in the Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical sectors.
Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership in developing new business with existing and prospective clients.
Direct strategic air permits and compliance programs for industrial clients with complex technical/regulatory issues, working closely with clients to develop permitting and compliance strategies that maintain operating flexibility.
Manage project deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
Contribute to expanding ERM’s air consulting services annually through seller/ doer initiatives.
Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the regional Air Quality market and other service‑line offerings via technical excellence and business development.
Mentor junior and mid‑level staff in planning and execution of air quality projects and in independent technical reviews of deliverables.
Support the general growth and development of ERM’s global air quality services, collaborating with global practitioners.
Demonstrate advanced subject‑matter expertise in air permitting and related compliance areas (e.g., air dispersion modeling, stormwater, SPCC, RMP/PSM, CEQA permitting, multimedia auditing).
Maintain familiarity with stack testing and ambient air measurement.
Understand ERM’s other consulting service areas and actively support cross‑selling to existing clients.
REQUIREMENTS
Recognized expert in federal and state air regulations.
Experience and confidence to lead and grow business in a dynamic market environment.
Minimum of BS in engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental) or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
Certification in the field; P.E., CSP, CHMM, or similar registration desired.
8+ years (15+ years preferred) of solid air quality consulting experience, with high technical competence in Title V, PSD, NSR, BACT, and MACT.
Strong track record of managing project deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
In‑depth understanding of the Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical industry in Texas, with existing relationships that can be leveraged into new business.
Consistent seller/doer record, including winning large and strategic projects.
Established reputation in the local marketplace and recognized technical expertise in ERM’s service offerings including air quality and climate change, EHS compliance assurance, process safety, sustainability, and environmental permitting.
Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication, strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and people skills.
Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.
