Overview The Senior Accountant role is a position that will fill a critical component in our Finance & Accounting team. This hands‑on position provides opportunities to further develop the depth and breadth of your accounting and operational skills. This position will work with the corporate accounting team, providing hands‑on input and execution of both operational and technical accounting. The candidate will also work cross‑functionally with internal groups including Asset Management, Project Finance, Legal, IT, and Tax to ensure internal, lender and investor reporting and compliance requirements are met. This position will report to the Corporate Accounting Manager. Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within the accounting department are available given available time and success in the technical role.
Responsibilities
Under supervision, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated and consolidating financial statements at several levels of the organizational hierarchy.
Prepare GAAP financial statements, footnotes, and support in a multi‑tiered financial consolidation.
Prepare fixed asset journals for additions and disposals, fixed asset roll forward schedules, and reconciliations.
Develop knowledge of applicable accounting standards and future reporting developments, ensuring on‑going compliance with relevant standards and legislative requirements.
Participate in the development of policies, procedures and best practices with an ability to communicate them out to the business.
Assist the operational accounting teams in period‑end reporting when needed.
Prepare complex journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations including but not limited to debt, equity, capital assets, intercompany transactions, overhead allocations, among other accounting topics.
Work with independent auditors to provide support for multiple audited consolidated and standalone financial statements.
Participate in monthly financial analysis.
Perform other duties as required for the position.
Preferred Education and / or Work Experience Requirements
BS in Accounting (or related major), MS in Accounting and / or CPA is preferred
At least 2‑4 years of experience in accounting role. Public accounting experience is a plus.
Relevant industry experience is a plus but not required. Relevant industries include solar or other energy companies, real estate, technology.
Experience preparing and / or reviewing multi‑tier consolidations.
Experience drafting GAAP financial statement footnotes
Requirements / Work Environment
Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day‑to‑day activities
Must be inquisitive, have the desire to learn and initiative to reach out to various departments to complete tasks.
Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible.
Excellent analytical and reasoning abilities
Effectively communicates with regulatory agencies, independent auditors, attorneys, support peers and all levels of corporate management
Organized, resourceful and pays attention to detail.
Must be a self‑starter who handles multiple projects with competing priorities with minimum supervision.
Intermediate to advanced excel skills and ability to quickly learn new software
Location The preferred location for this role is Washington, DC. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in‑office schedule of three days per week.
Compensation The salary range for the position is $70,000‑115,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
