The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) is the largest emergency response agency in the United States, providing fire protection, medical care, and other critical services across the five boroughs. Overview The Deputy Director for Storehouse Operations reports directly to the Director of Radio Shop Administration and oversees all warehouse‑related functions within the radio shop, which specializes in mobile radios, portable radios, MDTs, and other communication equipment. This leadership role involves supervising and managing warehouse staff to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the full lifecycle of ordering, shipping, receiving, inventory control, fiscal oversight, requirements contracts, and purchase orders.

Ensure warehouse and shop processes support operational efficiency and compliance with departmental and citywide guidelines.

Coordinate all equipment in the shop, maintaining real‑time awareness of locations and statuses, and optimize workflow to avoid bottlenecks and ensure timely service.

Maintain accurate inventory records, log and track all equipment, and assign tasks to warehouse staff.

Assist with warehouse projects and delegate responsibilities to enhance productivity and accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of full‑time progressively responsible experience in warehousing operations, with at least 18 months in a managerial or administrative capacity involving independent decision‑making, resource allocation, and work scheduling.

Equivalent education and experience, with 1 year of college substituting for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of four years of college for 2 years of experience.

Preferred Skills

Strong leadership and organizational abilities within warehouse management, preferably in a technical or communications environment.

Familiarity with radio communication equipment (mobile, portable radios, MDTs).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead teams, delegate, and resolve conflicts.

Proficiency in inventory management systems, record‑keeping, and standard office software.

Commitment to workplace safety, attention to detail, and collaboration with technical and operational teams.

Experience conducting staff evaluations and managing timekeeping or scheduling systems.

Compensation $68,213.00 – $187,716.00
