Senior Highway Engineer
– GFT
Join GFT’s Highway Practice as a Senior Highway Engineer. In this position you will engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and community connectivity across Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia. The role offers a flexible/hybrid work environment.
What You’ll Do As a technical specialist you will lead roadway design, deliver innovative solutions for highways, bridges, and multimodal roadways, and manage project execution. You will mentor junior staff, interface with clients, and ensure quality through QA/QC reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of project design concepts and criteria, researching large or complex project elements.
Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate large or complex engineering assignments.
Work within interdisciplinary teams covering highway, transit, bridge, geotechnical, civil/site, and environmental disciplines.
Develop proposals and independently produce scopes of work and cost estimates.
Provide management of highway personnel and maintain project budget and schedule.
Conduct QA/QC reviews and represent GFT at industry and professional events.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Professional Engineer license and ability to obtain licenses in multiple jurisdictions.
Minimum 12 years of progressive roadway design experience for highways, interchanges or urban roadways.
Proficiency in MS Office, CADD, geometry and drainage software, and transportation permitting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior supervision of staff.
Experience managing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong collaborative problem‑solving skills.
Compensation Salary range: $135,000 - $160,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
