RH is seeking a Wood Paint And Stain Finishing Specialist to join our Dennis & Leen/Formations Workshop in Torrance, CA. This role plays a vital part in transforming raw wood into timeless works of art, honoring traditional craftsmanship while achieving the refined, aged finishes that define the Formations aesthetic. The ideal candidate brings both technical mastery and creative artistry - understanding color, texture, and finish as integral expressions of design and material storytelling. Your Responsibilities
Prepare and refine wood surfaces through detailed sanding, filling, and repair to create a flawless foundation for finishing applications Apply paints, stains, glazes, and sealants using advanced techniques such as spraying, brushing, hand-rubbing, and wiping to achieve custom, antique-style finishes Mix and match custom colors with precision, leveraging a deep understanding of color theory to meet design specifications Apply protective coatings including varnishes, lacquers, oils, and waxes to enhance durability and preserve beauty Conduct detailed inspections throughout the finishing process to ensure accuracy, consistency, and excellence Maintain and calibrate finishing tools and HVLP spray systems, upholding a clean and organized workspace that meets all safety and environmental standards Collaborate with carpentry, design, and production teams to ensure every finish aligns seamlessly with the intended design vision Our Requirements
3+ years of experience in fine furniture finishing, specializing in water-based and oil-based paints, stains, and sealants Expert knowledge of traditional and antique-style finishing techniques Strong understanding of how different wood species respond to various finishing materials and processes Skilled in advanced surface preparation, color matching, and decorative finishes including antiquing, liming, and faux bois Familiarity with curing processes, VOC compliance, and safe handling of finishing materials Exceptional attention to detail, artistry, and commitment to craftsmanship Works independently and collaboratively within a design-driven workshop environment Physical Requirements
Stands, bends, and moves throughout the workspace for extended periods of time Lifts and positions materials, tools, and furniture components weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly Performs detailed finishing work requiring manual dexterity, control, and concentration Works in areas with exposure to paints, solvents, and finishing materials while adhering to safety and ventilation standards
