Medical Director, Advanced Heart Failure
in the Charlotte Region.

At this pivotal moment, Novant Health seeks a visionary and entrepreneurial physician leader to serve as the inaugural Medical Director of its Advanced Heart Failure Program. This is a rare opportunity to lead a transformative, ground-up initiative to build a destination heart failure program that integrates clinical excellence, cutting-edge innovation, and meaningful community impact. Reporting to Dr. Thomas Kambur, Clinical Physician Executive for the Charlotte Region, the Medical Director will guide strategic planning, clinical operations, and quality improvement across six hospitals and eleven ambulatory sites.
The Medical Director will lead the creation and expansion of a full-spectrum heart failure program, including mechanical circulatory support and long-term transplant planning. They will establish a destination care center at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, recruit and mentor a multidisciplinary team, and foster a culture of collaboration and inclusive excellence. The role also includes spearheading the development of an LVAD program and driving market share growth through strategic outreach and clinical differentiation. The Medical Director will define and meet key performance indicators for heart failure care, supported by robust infrastructure and technology.
The ideal candidate will be a mid-career cardiologist with board certification in Cardiovascular Medicine and fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure. They will bring a minimum of five years’ clinical experience in heart failure and advanced cardiac therapies, along with demonstrated success in program development, team leadership, and strategic growth. The successful candidate will possess an entrepreneurial mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to physician-led governance and collaborative culture.
