Position Overview

Flat Rate Technicians at Capital City Nissan of Topeka perform vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs with a focus on efficiency, quality, and customer safety. This role requires consistent productivity, attention to detail, and strong communication with the service team. Technicians work in a flat-rate environment and are supported through clear career pathing, ongoing manufacturer and ASE training, and annual performance reviews. KRA #1: Flat Rate Production & Proficiency

Consistently meet or exceed proficiency targets and maximize available hours. Critical Tasks: Flag flat-rate hours accurately and consistently.

Maintain 100% or higher proficiency (flagged vs. worked hours).

Complete repairs within industry-standard timeframes.

Communicate parts' needs or time variances proactively.

Prioritize work efficiently based on dispatch and shop load.

KRA #2: Repair Accuracy & First-Time Fix

Deliver safe, accurate repairs and minimize comebacks. Critical Tasks: Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs across vehicle systems.

Adhere strictly to OEM repair procedures and documentation standards.

Complete accurate, and detailed technician stories on every RO.

Participate in quality checks or test drives as necessary.

Maintain a low warranty comeback and rework rate.

KRA #3: Training & Certification

Advance your technical skills and certifications through a structured development plan. Critical Tasks: Complete Nissan technician training modules as assigned.

Obtain and maintain ASE certifications (costs covered by dealership).

Participate in in-house and external training events.

Engage in annual career path reviews and goal-setting.

KRA #4: Shop Safety & Team Communication

Maintain a clean, safe work area and contribute to overall shop productivity. Critical Tasks: Keep assigned bay and shared spaces organized and compliant with safety guidelines.

Collaborate effectively with advisors, parts staff, and fellow technicians.

Follow all dealership safety protocols and equipment usage standards.

Assist teammates when volume or repairs require extra support.

Compensation & Schedule

Flat Rate Pay Range:

$26.00 – $44.71 per hour

(Pay is based on our technician career path, which is reviewed and updated annually.)

Typical Hours Available:

40–50 per week (dependent on performance and shop volume)

Performance Targets:

100%+ proficiency expected

Minimum Requirements

Minimum 1 year of flat-rate or professional automotive repair experience

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Personal tools and storage required (advanced tools provided)

Ability to lift 50 lbs and meet the physical demands of the position

High school diploma or equivalent required

Nissan or ASE certifications preferred (not required at hire)
