## ***Current Employees: If you are currently employed at any of the Universities of Wisconsin, log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process.***## **Position Title:**Lecturer - Reading and Literacy - Curriculum and Instruction## **Job Category:**Academic Staff## **Employment Type:**Regular## **Job Profile:**Lecturer## **Job Duties:**The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a 9-month renewable reading instructional academic staff in the area of literacy education with an emphasis on reading and language arts education beginning August 2026.This full-time position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in the Elementary/Middle School teacher preparation program, providing service, and/or performing comparable duties to those of teaching faculty members.The successful candidate will be able to teach literacy instruction, literacy assessment, and literacy theory and as part of the teacher preparation programs. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities, provide academic advising to students, and supervise pre-student teaching and student teaching field experiences. All instructional academic staff at UW-Whitewater may be required to teach online and hybrid classes, evening and weekend classes, and provide service to the university and the local community in a variety of modalities, including committee work, leading Learning Communities, mentoring students, and providing professional development for colleagues, schools, and community groups. Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to working with non-traditional students are essential for this position.**Responsibilities**:Full-time teaching responsibilities include teaching literacy courses, service, practicum supervision, and student teaching field experiences. Service responsibilities include committee and professional service relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest and serving as academic advisors/mentors to students. The Communication Sciences & Disorders Department is in the Roseman Building, and the Kinesiology Department is in the Williams Center.**Department Information**:The Curriculum and Instruction Department in the UW-Whitewater College of Education & Professional Studies (COEPS) allows students to prepare for careers as teachers. Students may choose the Early Childhood Program, the Elementary/Middle School Program, or a Middle/Secondary School Program. In each program, students are prepared for Department of Public Instruction (DPI) licensure.The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) houses numerous teacher preparation programs along with programs for add-on licenses for certified teachers and the MSE Professional Studies, MSE in Reading Instruction and Dyslexia Intervention, MSE Early Childhood Education Policy, and administrator certificates for principal, director of instruction, and director of pupil services. We are proud of our programs that lead to licensure, either a first-time license or an add-on license. As they move through their coursework, students combine a commitment to education with a solid liberal arts foundation, a teaching major, and the study of teaching. All students engage in at least three school-based clinical experiences that allow them to apply their knowledge to actual classroom situations, preparing them to be effective teachers and instructional leaders in our changing schools.
