General Description
Clerical work of moderate difficulty and general office duties in recording, processing, indexing, and researching the public records of Santa Rosa County that are located within the Clerk's office.

Identifies various types of legal documents found in the public records; Receives, records, indexes and processes legal documents from the public such as deeds, satisfaction of mortgages and liens, conditional sales contracts, affidavits, certificate of debts, etc.; Checks instruments for accuracy and completeness and checks printouts for accuracy and completeness; Numbers instruments and maintains sequence and control of source documents; Posts time and recording data on documents; Provides messenger and courier service for county offices; Checks to assure correct amount is received for recording fees; Assures documentary stamps in correct amount are affixed; Computes intangible tax and issues payment receipts; Keys alphabetic and numeric information in prescribed format; Assists in records research; Faxes documents to agencies and public; Utilizes reference materials; Ensures accurate and prompt attention to customers in the public records office; Assists in keeping accurate, complete and in good repair; all record books, plats, card files, etc., to ensure efficient and smooth work flow within the division; Assists with imaging, retrieving, and copying documents from Imaging System; Operates all office equipment and a computer terminal; Sorts and files all documents within department; Balances cash drawer and daily printout to cash collections; Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Manual dexterity, good vision, hearing and speaking in order to communicate with public. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works inside and outside (traveling to various locations throughout the county).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Business English, spelling, mathematics and punctuation; general office practices and procedures.
ABILITY TO:
Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding receipt and recording of legal documents; make decisions in accordance with laws and policy and apply them to work problems; make arithmetic computations accurately and with speed; establish and maintain effective working relationship with officials, public, attorneys, title companies and fellow workers; follow oral and written instructions. Gain knowledge of county buildings and office locations; sort and carefully handle mail and equipment; follow written and oral instructions; make routine records and simple reports.
SKILLS:
Operate all office equipment and computer terminal; type. Operation of automobile or light truck.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED. One year clerical experience in cash receipting and verification of funds. Type 35 cwpm.
Licensure and/or Certifications: Applicant must have a valid driver's license at the date of hire and maintain said license while employed in this position.
