Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program Current Physical Therapy license in North Carolina Minimum of 2 years experience in pediatric or early intervention populations Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)

Strong knowledge of infant and toddler motor development and pediatric neuromotor conditions Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience working in a multidisciplinary or integrated care model Experience with care coordination and family-centered support services Familiarity with public health programs, IDEA Part C, or community-based services for young children Bilingual or multicultural experience is a plus License/Certification Required

Department of Kinesiology

at Appalachian State University comprises nationally accredited and recognized programs including a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Kinesiology (formerly Exercise Science). The Kinesiology graduate program at App State has a long history of success and prestige in strength & conditioning and clinical exercise physiology. The department features state of the art laboratories and supports faculty with diverse research and practice backgrounds. This inaugural chair position is a significant milestone in the history of Exercise Science (Kinesiology) at App State as it marks the transition into an independent , stand-alone department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness is seeking a Practitioner in Residence (Department of Kinesiology) and Physical Therapist, for its new Growing Well Development Clinic.

Provides pediatric clinical mentorship and structured "shadowing" hours for undergraduate Exercise Science and related majors pursuing DPT. Coordinates student observation/practicum experiences in pediatric neurodevelopmental assessment and early intervention. Performs comprehensive physical therapy and/or age appropriate developmental evaluations for infants and children (0-5), including those born prematurely or identified as high-risk. Develops and implement individualized treatment plans focused on gross motor development, strength, balance, coordination, and functional mobility. Uses evidence-based tools and techniques to support early identification of conditions like cerebral palsy and motor delays. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated and family-centered care. Educate and coach families on home exercise programs and strategies to support motor development. Participates in developmental screenings, team meetings, and care plan reviews. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory standards. Assists in referrals to early intervention services, orthotics, equipment vendors, and other support as needed. Contributes to the development and refinement of clinic protocols and best practices in pediatric physical therapy. Type of Position Full Time Position

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABD Description

ABD with reduction in rank and salary:

ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration:

Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
