Under the supervision of the Service Manager, the
Shop Mechanic - Trucks & Small Equipment
is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing company-owned on-road vehicles (foreman trucks, service vans, and other light-duty vehicles), as well as small tools and support equipment such as generators, compressors, compactors, and power tools.
This position is
100% shop-based
and plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and compliance of the company's vehicle and small equipment fleet. The mechanic ensures all assets meet
DOT, OSHA, and company standards
while maintaining organization and efficiency within the shop environment.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on
foreman trucks, service vans, and light-duty fleet vehicles , including oil changes, brakes, tires, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Conduct
DOT inspections
and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations for all company on-road assets. Diagnose and repair
small tools and shop-managed equipment , including generators, compressors, compactors, pressure washers, saws, jackhammers, and power tools. Maintain
accurate maintenance and repair records
in the company's systems (e.g., B2W Maintain, CE, or equivalent). Assist with
vehicle registration, inspections, and documentation
required for DOT compliance. Coordinate with the
Service Manager, Dispatcher, and Logistics team
to manage repair schedules and shop priorities. Maintain a
clean, safe, and organized shop environment , ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Support
parts identification, ordering, and inventory management
to maintain shop readiness. Perform light
fabrication or welding
(MIG or Stick) when needed for repairs or modifications. Inspect and test completed repairs to verify safe and reliable operation. Participate in
safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks
to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Equipment Department. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED preferred . 3-5 years of experience
maintaining and repairing light-duty trucks, service vehicles, and small construction tools preferred. Knowledge of
DOT inspection standards
and vehicle maintenance regulations. Proficient with
hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery . Ability to read and interpret
repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents . Basic welding and fabrication experience preferred. Understanding of
shop safety protocols, PPE use, and OSHA compliance . Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills with attention to detail. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work safely in a fast-paced shop environment. Must possess a
valid driver's license with a clean DMV record
(Class A license preferred but not required). Positive, team-oriented attitude with strong communication and problem-solving abilities. INCENTIVES:
