You Are
UST is seeking a detail‑oriented Hardware Lab Engineer to join our silicon development lab support team. This role focuses on supporting lab device operations and hardware bring‑up activities. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineering teams to ensure smooth execution of hardware validation and debug processes and will play a key role in ensuring product quality, performance, and reliability across client and commercial device lines.
The Opportunity
- Manage and prioritize assigned validation and debug tasks across multiple FPGA and pre‑silicon hardware platforms.
- Perform board and silicon bring‑up, including power‑on validation, interface bring‑up (PCIe, I²C, SPI, UART, JTAG), and benchtop silicon characterization.
- Bring up and support rack‑mounted FPGA systems for large‑scale regression, functional, and performance validation workloads.
- Troubleshoot and resolve low‑level hardware and firmware issues such as device enumeration failures, flash programming errors, and bitstream deployment using tools like Vivado, Quartus, and OpenOCD.
- Maintain accurate tracking of FPGA device inventory, test configurations, and validation status through lab management systems and detailed engineering logs.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional hardware, firmware, and design teams to debug silicon bring‑up issues, validate design changes, and support feature enablement.
- Participate in recurring engineering syncs, providing technical updates, risk assessments, and support for validation milestone planning and execution.
- Create, maintain, and update detailed lab documentation, test procedures, and bring‑up guides to ensure repeatability and process compliance.
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in hardware lab support or silicon validation.
- Working understanding of FPGA bitstreams and embedded systems.
- Proficient with engineering debugging techniques.
- Proficient with lab test equipment (set‑up, measurements, and sourcing) such as high‑bandwidth digital storage oscilloscopes, logic/PCIe/USB analyzers, supply batteries, BERTs, etc.
- Proficient with a programming language.
- Proficient navigating both Linux and Windows based environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and collaborative documentation tools.
Desired Skills
- Experience with Python.
