The Office of Information Technology at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a
Field/Project Engineer . The Engineer supervises and coordinates field activities for the OIT infrastructure required by operations, construction, and renovation. This position is responsible for assuring contractual requirements and QA/QC of work of standing order contractors as well as their overall performance and compliance with OIT/CU-Boulder standards. The role works closely with OIT internal staff, design consultants, and contractors to assure timely completion of quality work activities and maintenance of the infrastructure. Responsibilities
Field Project Management
– Provides direction to contractors regarding existing projects and IT installations. Conducts daily site visits to inspect construction activity and compliance with building codes, OIT standards, fire and life safety requirements, and quality control standards. Supervises and provides feedback to standing order contractors on their performance. Provides regular status updates to project managers, contractors, and internal staff. Processes required state paperwork including notice to proceed, procurement paperwork requests, receipt and validation of as-built documentation, and project closeout/warranty documentation. Fiber Optic/Copper Expert
– Provides guidance to hired contractors or internal technicians about standard processes for completing placement, terminations, and testing. Ensures continuity of service on existing infrastructure through testing with OTDR and power meters, and performs fiber patching as needed. Activity Closeout
– Provides approval for work completed for daily activities, projects, and repairs via workflow tool. Design/Consultant Review
– Reviews design documents, project proposals and plans for upcoming projects; responds to RFI and change requests on active projects. What You Should Know
This is a 100% on-campus position with normal business hours Monday – Friday. Occasional out-of-hour work may be required related to service incidents or campus events. What We Can Offer

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited institution in telecommunications information systems, engineering or other related field. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis. 3+ years of experience which includes: Performing field work and oversight related to construction/communications projects, testing and acceptance. Understanding ANSI/TIA-568 and BICSI Telecommunication Cabling Installation standards for copper and fiber cabling. Understanding copper ANSI/TIA-568 standard testing for copper cable and ANSI/TIA/EIA-526 testing for multimode and single-mode fiber optic cable. Understanding ANSI/NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code for cable installation. Experience with AutoCAD. A Valid U.S. Driver's License. What You Will Need
Demonstrated ability to track and manage multiple tasks at the same time. Highly organized and meticulous approach to all work tasks and products. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently and meet set timelines. Ability to effectively connect with campus constituents. Knowledge of voice and data services and structured cabling.
