Fund Controller - Alternative Investments
We are currently seeking candidates for a Fund Controller opportunity with a leading investment management firm located in Boston, MA. The Fund Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting, reporting, and operational processes for a portfolio of alternative investment funds, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong fund accounting experience within private equity, hedge funds, or alternative asset management.
This is a 6+ month contract opportunity paying between $70–$85/hour (depending on experience). This role follows a hybrid work model, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.
Responsibilities
Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for assigned funds, including NAV calculations and investor allocations.
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by administrators or internal teams.
Coordinate and liaise with external auditors, fund administrators, and internal stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with fund governing documents, GAAP, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Monitor and analyze fund performance metrics, valuations, and investment activity.
Support capital activity, including calls, distributions, and investor reporting.
Assist in process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward preferred).
6+ years of fund accounting experience within alternative investments (private equity, hedge funds, or real estate funds).
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and investment fund structures.
Proficiency in Excel and fund accounting software (e.g., Investran, Geneva, or similar).
Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
