Overview
Senior Technical Director, Solid Waste for WSP in the U.S. This opportunity is available in Charlotte, NC, with consideration for Asheville, NC; Durham, NC; Greensboro, NC; or Wilmington, NC. Join our Civil Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team and lead projects related to waste management facility design and permitting, stormwater management, landfill gas management, operations planning, and construction quality assurance. Provide technical direction, lead client-facing teams, and support growth of our civil design and environmental services within the Power market, with emphasis on Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR). The role may involve strategies for closing coal yards, ash ponds, and landfills, and may serve as the account manager for key clients. Strong municipal solid waste (MSW) experience is encouraged. Knowledge of federal CCR regulations is required. Ensure deliverables meet or exceed industry standards.
Your Impact Work with key CCR/MSW team members to provide strategic business direction, support existing client relationships and pursue CCR/Fly Ash/MSW projects. Serve as senior CCR/MSW consultant for current and future projects, daily client engagement to set strategic direction for project execution. Develop, present, and execute winning client strategies for new and follow-on contract bids; contribute to technical, management and business plans. Mentor and coach team members, perform as reviewer, support pre-sales activities, and assist in proposal development and post-submission activities. Support long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Civil Engineering work in the assigned area. Manage and direct project design teams, including roles as Engineer of Record, Project Manager, or Project Director. Ensure profitable project performance and successful completion within the designated area. Represent the engineering discipline to external entities (Federal, State, Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry groups, and community entities). Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise ethical decision-making regarding funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs and travel up to 10% for meetings or site audits. Who You Are Required Qualifications Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with valid North Carolina PE registration. 12+ years of civil engineering design experience, including significant CCR ponds and landfills regulations. Familiarity with the power market and clientele. Knowledge of in-situ stabilization and civil construction techniques related to CCR or other waste materials. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for scientific and non-scientific audiences. Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Must pass WSP Motor Vehicle screening. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; proficient in technical and business writing, software, and tools. Proven track record of safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and harassment policies. Ability to accommodate project schedules that may extend beyond typical workweeks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word) and advanced Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills; positive, detail-oriented; able to work independently and in teams.
