Purchasing Manager – Shoppa’s Material Handling is a family‑owned dealership operating since 1981 with nine locations across Texas and Kansas City, MO. We are an authorized Toyota Material Handling dealer and provide a comprehensive array of products, services, and integrated systems to help customers streamline the storage and movement of their goods.
Job Summary The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement process within the organization. This role involves developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring goods and services are acquired at the best possible cost, quality, and terms. The Purchasing Manager works closely with various departments to align purchasing activities with Shoppa’s goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation skills, a keen understanding of market trends, and the ability to manage and optimize the supply chain efficiently.
Essential Functions
Develop and implement purchasing strategies that are aligned with the company’s objectives.
Identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and work with Shoppa’s departments to select the most suitable suppliers to deliver high‑quality products at competitive prices.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions to ensure favorable terms and cost savings.
Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
Conduct regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with company standards.
Monitor and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring that all purchases are within the allocated budget.
Identify cost‑saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and process improvements.
Prepare cost analyses and reports to support decision‑making processes.
Work closely with inventory management teams to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained to meet customer service requests and operational needs.
Optimize inventory levels to reduce carrying costs while minimizing the risk of stockouts.
Ensure that all procurement activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Develop risk mitigation strategies to manage supply chain disruptions and other potential risks.
Ensure that all contracts are properly documented and stored for compliance and future reference.
Manage new vendor authorization/vetting process.
Collaborate with internal departments to understand their needs and align purchasing activities accordingly.
Assist departments in the development and analysis of RFIs/RFQs.
Assist Shoppa’s management with CapEx purchases.
Communicate effectively with departments and Shoppa’s management to keep them informed about purchasing decisions and any potential impacts on the organization.
Track authorized buyers across all departments and locations, with the goal of minimizing the number of employees allowed to issue Purchase Orders.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing professionals.
Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the purchasing team.
Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, price fluctuations, and emerging suppliers.
Use data and market intelligence to inform purchasing decisions and anticipate changes in the supply chain.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Purchasing Manager, Certified Professional in Supply Management) is a plus.
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in purchasing or supply chain management. Experience in a managerial role is a plus.
