Overview
The Certified Endoscopy Technician supports the Department of Gastroenterology in the SurgiCenters by providing management of the scopes and scope disinfectant equipment at each SurgiCenter. This position ensures that all duties related to the supply of scopes and equipment management are performed accurately, efficiently, and productively. The technician cleans, maintains, and participates in the Endoscope Reprocessing and High Level Disinfection process. The position requires annual Endoscope Reprocessing and High Level Disinfection competency and demonstration of equipment and Flexible Endoscope competency. The role ensures the working order of endoscopy equipment and supplies and reports broken equipment or expired supplies to the Team Lead or designee. The technician supports the GI endoscopy team by assisting with patient care-related duties and procedures as requested or necessary.
The technician assists the physician and registered nurse during Endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and delivers care in a prompt and professional manner. Duties include assisting with laboratory specimens, decontamination and High Level Disinfection of equipment, ensuring availability of supplies, and performing other support functions as assigned.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
Responsibilities The Certified Endoscopy Technician supports the GI team and participates in:
Assisting with endoscopic procedures and related patient care tasks as requested
Decontamination and High Level Disinfection of endoscopy equipment
Ensuring availability of supplies and appropriate equipment for procedures
Reporting equipment issues and expired supplies to the Team Lead or designee
Qualifications Education : High School diploma or equivalent required.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/ Certification :
BLS Healthcare Provider (BLSHCP) required within 60 days from date of hire or transfer.
Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD certification required; Endoscope Reprocessing Certification required within 12 months of hire (or Endoscope Reprocessing Technician Certification required at time of hire).
Experience :
Minimum 6 months endoscope reprocessing experience and a Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing at time of hire or transfer, OR 3 months of Sterile Processing department experience with a Sterile Processing Certification at time of hire or transfer.
Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and then skilled within 30–60 days from date of hire.
Performance Expectations :
Demonstrates the competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
Work Environment :
Potential exposure to the hazards of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous waste, and potential injury.
Physical demands include considerable stooping, crouching, pushing equipment, and standing and walking for extended periods; lifting 25–30 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs with assistance occasionally.
Reporting Relationship :
Reports to Sterilization Services Supervisor and Director of Sterilization and HLD Services.
