Position Summary The Certified Endoscopy Technician supports the Department of Gastroenterology by managing scopes and scope disinfectant equipment in each division. This position ensures that all duties related to the supply of scopes and equipment management are performed accurately, efficiently and productively. It cleans, maintains, and participates in the scope disinfection process, performs a yearly scope cleaning/disinfection competency, and ensures the working order of the endoscopy equipment and supplies. Equipment and supplies issues are reported to the Lead Endoscopy Technician. The technician assists the physician and registered nurse during endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and delivers care in a prompt and professional manner. Duties include assisting with laboratory specimens, disinfection of equipment, ensuring availability of supplies, and other support functions as given.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certified registered central sterile technician certification (CRCST), certified endoscope reprocessor (CER), and/or certified flexible endoscope reprocessor (CFER).
BLSHCP certification required within 90 days from date of hire or transfer.
Gastric Intestinal Certification.
Education and Certification High School diploma or equivalent required.
Certification Requirements
BLSHCP certification required within 90 days from date of hire or transfer.
Certified registered central sterile technician certification (CRCST), certified endoscope reprocessor (CER), and/or certified flexible endoscope reprocessor (CFER) required.
Gastric Intestinal Certification required.
Experience Minimum 1 year endoscopy/GI Lab experience preferred.
Performance Expectations Demonstrates the competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
Work Environment Potential exposure to the hazards of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous waste, and potential injury.
Physical Demands Significant stooping, crouching, pushing equipment, excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25–30 lbs frequently; lifting 50–100 lbs with assistance occasionally.
Reporting Relationship This position reports to department leadership.
