Position Overview MasTec Civil is hiring a Senior Estimator to assist in the growth of the Miami, Florida infrastructure market!
Remote position within the state of Florida.
This individual should have a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience and a minimum of 3 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction, specifically in roadway work such as earth movement, drainage, clearing & grubbing, grading, roadway bases, channel excavation, retaining walls, water main, force main, etc. They should also be knowledgeable in contract delivery methods: design-build, design-bid-build, Lump Sum, etc., and have contract experience with Florida DOT/turnpike, cities/counties, and airport authority.
This candidate must be a self‑motivated person, willing to collaborate with peers, teach young engineers, and constantly strive to identify problems and solutions.
Responsibilities
Understand bid items, basis of estimate, and skills to identify errors and discrepancies in plans, specifications, and proposals.
Perform detailed reading of plans, specifications, request for proposal, request for information, addendums, technical special provisions, etc.
Create and maintain green sheet estimates, activity structure breakdown, construction schedule, and risk matrix analysis.
Prepare job budgets for awarded contracts.
Develop bid strategy, cost savings initiatives, and management skills.
Execute accurate and timely quantity takeoffs.
Capable of estimating an entire job independently.
Review estimating reports: equipment total hours, labor productivity rates, key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.
Stay current with updated Florida DOT standards and specifications.
Review full bid submittal package and lead estimating discussions with company executives.
Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from owners or engineers of record.
Coordinate and invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote scope of work.
Analyze supplier and subcontractor pricing.
Build and strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships.
Maintain thorough understanding of unit cost analyses.
Assist with pre‑bid meetings and bid submittals.
Stay informed about commodity trade prices.
Follow new construction technologies and techniques.
Pursue continuous education in construction: attend engineering conventions, forums, etc.
Continuously communicate with field personnel (project engineer, superintendent, foreman, fleet manager, etc.) to track and adjust unit costs as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of experience in Heavy Civil.
Must be located in Florida.
B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Possess good organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have knowledge in bridge and roadway construction.
Savvy in Florida soil (rock/clay), foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation system, safety standards, etc.
Knowledgeable in design-build and design-bid-build contracts with Florida DOT and Turnpike Enterprises.
Teaching and mentoring skills.
Software Skills
30‑Hour OSHA training.
Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Scheduling software, P6 Primavera.
