Position Summary: This role is with Walmart Healthcare Research Institute (WHRI). WHRI is building a modernized infrastructure that leverages AI/ML, advanced analytics, and real-world data to generate actionable healthcare insights. Our mission is to advance real-world evidence (RWE) and improve health outcomes by collaborating with biopharma, biotech, and research organizations. As part of the WHRI Data Science & Analytics team, you will join a collaborative group driving next-generation health insights across Walmart’s ecosystem — spanning retail pharmacy, clinical services, and third-party research data. This job is available in the Bentonville, AR location only and no sponsorship is available. Candidates who do not need sponsorship are encouraged to apply.

What you’ll do

Design and implement AI/ML models that transform large-scale, multi-modal healthcare data (e.g., pharmacy, claims, EMR) into real-world insights and evidence.

Develop scalable analytical pipelines to support clinical and observational research, RWE studies, and research insights reports.

Apply advanced modeling techniques (predictive modeling, causal inference, NLP, graph analytics) to uncover trends and support decision-making in healthcare.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineers, informaticians, clinicians, statisticians) to standardize data and enhance data quality.

Support GenAI/Agentic AI initiatives to automate and optimize research workflows, knowledge extraction, and evidence synthesis.

Communicate complex results to technical and non-technical stakeholders through visualizations, dashboards, and executive-level summaries.

What you’ll Bring

Proven expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data storytelling, with applied experience in healthcare, clinical research, or real-world data analytics.

Strong proficiency in Python and related data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

Experience with healthcare datasets (claims, EMR/EHR, pharmacy, registries), ontologies (MeSH, OBO, DO, UMLS) and coding systems (ICD-10/11, SNOMED CT, LOINC, CPT/HCPCS, GPI, RxNorm).

Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) and distributed computing tools (e.g., BigQuery, Databricks).

Proficiency with Python and SQL and data engineering concepts for handling high-dimensional, large-scale datasets.

Familiarity with GenAI and Agentic AI frameworks (MAF, A2A, LangChain, Azure ML, Vertex AI, etc.) is a plus.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills — able to translate technical findings into actionable insights for all audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Biostatistics, or related field.

Experience with RWD/RWE pipelines, tokenization, or de-identification workflows.

Experience in healthcare AI/ML model validation, interpretability, or regulatory-grade analytics.

Experience working with AI/ML software engineers, solutions architects, product managers, medical affairs, epidemiologists.

Publication or contribution to peer-reviewed healthcare or data science journals a plus.
