Overview
Category Manager I – Consumables & Indirect – Mortenson. Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Category Manager I – Consumables & Indirect, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing sourcing strategies for consumables & indirect materials and services categories. This role will focus on optimizing costs, quality, and delivery while improving supply chain efficiencies and maintaining supplier relationships. Responsibilities also include managing the consumables purchasing team and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of materials to meet timelines and requirements. Develop and implement Category Strategy for assigned indirect categories (~50%). Identify and engage with internal stakeholders across operations and business services to capture category requirements. Assess opportunities for categories including spend segmentation, category maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis. Develop Sourcing Strategy detailing projects, sourcing levers, timing, resources, and expected benefits; adapt strategy as business, market, and economic environments change. Support Annual Category Reviews with updated projects, metrics, strategy, and risk mitigation strategies. Manage relationships with key suppliers at the leadership level; conduct supplier business reviews. Monitor supplier quality and delivery performance; leverage supplier relationships to assist buyers with expedites as needed. Responsible for category financial results for assigned categories and develop strategies to achieve financial and category initiative goals. Supply Chain Operations for Consumables Category (~50%). Manage and implement short and long-term sourcing strategies to achieve business objectives for the Consumables category. Execute sourcing initiatives in alignment with strategic plans and supply chain strategies; negotiate and maintain contracts with key suppliers and service providers. Establish strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and productivity; leverage combined buying power across Mortenson’s operations. Collaborate across business functions to formulate, implement, and execute sourcing and continuous improvement strategies. Monitor and analyze industry trends and lead the implementation of best practices for supply chain. People Leadership: lead the Consumables procurement team, establish strategies for sourcing and supply chain with a process excellence focus. Foster teamwork and collaboration within Supply Chain and Mortenson to deliver cohesive solutions and effective strategy execution. Lead by example, provide coaching and performance management, and work with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels. Champion superior customer service with a customer-focused approach and strong service orientation. Qualifications and Education
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent. 8+ years of experience managing Consumables category spend; experience with other indirect categories is a plus. 2+ years of experience managing a team. Knowledge of ERP systems (such as Oracle) and capabilities. Benefits
