Overview
Job Title: Toxic Tort / Asbestos Defense Litigation Associate
Location: California – Remote flexibility offered, but candidate must reside in California and be an active member of the California Bar. Occasional in-office appearances may be required at firm offices (e.g., Irvine, Los Angeles, Ontario, Oxnard, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Carlsbad, San Diego, etc.).
Compensation: $120,000.00 - $275,000.00 (commensurate with experience), plus bonus
Billing / Hours: 1900
About The Opportunity: Our client, an Am Law 100 firm with a nationally recognized litigation platform, is seeking a talented
Associate Attorney
to join its
Environmental and Toxic Tort
practice group. This position offers the opportunity to handle high-profile
toxic tort and asbestos defense litigation
within a collaborative, well-resourced team that represents major manufacturers, contractors, and premises owners across California and beyond. The firm provides the structure and support of a top-tier national platform while maintaining the flexibility of a modern work environment. This is an ideal role for an attorney who thrives in complex litigation, enjoys scientific and technical subject matter, and wants to further develop expertise in defending toxic tort and asbestos claims.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all phases of toxic tort and asbestos defense litigation from case inception through resolution.
Draft and argue dispositive motions, pleadings, discovery responses, and trial-related filings.
Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, experts, and corporate representatives.
Coordinate with experts in fields such as industrial hygiene, environmental science, and epidemiology.
Develop defense strategies and communicate effectively with clients and co-counsel.
Represent clients in both state and federal courts, handling case strategy, discovery, and trial preparation.
Qualifications
Active California Bar license required.
Must reside in California (remote flexibility available).
1 or more years of defense litigation experience, specifically in toxic tort, asbestos defense, or products liability.
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Strong academic credentials and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating with the firm’s national team.
Prior experience working with scientific experts and exposure to complex discovery is preferred.
