Position Details

Position : Librarian: Contract Instructor-College Credit Location : San Diego Miramar College (Mira Mesa / Scripps Ranch area, within the SDCCD). The college serves a diverse student population and is committed to DEI. Classification : 12-month, 1.0 FTE; FLSA Exempt; pay per the AFT – College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule; starting salary Class 1, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44 – $8,849.03) per month, non-negotiable placement based on education and experience. Travel reimbursement for interviewees may be provided per SDCCD policy. Schedule : Some evenings, weekends, or off-campus work may be required based on department needs during library hours. This position reports to the Dean of the School of Academic Services and is under the Library Department Chair. Major Responsibilities

All San Diego Miramar College Librarians adhere to the ALA Code of Ethics and share responsibility for departmental and faculty functions, including: Cataloging, technical services, systems, and electronic resource management Direction of paraprofessional staff; reference services; instruction; and assessment of student learning outcomes Liaison relationships with faculty regarding instruction, collection development and management Teaching credit-bearing courses; collection development and management; knowledge of open educational resources (OER) Library promotion, outreach, committee work, program review, planning, and accreditation Other duties necessary to provide quality library services and resources Configuration, maintenance, enhancement, training, and troubleshooting of the library services platform and its public interface; support of library systems and web-based services; coordinating cataloging and systems work The successful candidate will also contribute to course-specific instruction, class visits, workshops, research consultations (in-person and virtual), chat reference, reference desk support, and outreach activities across 10–15 department liaison areas. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Master’s in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or the equivalent Desired Qualifications Knowledge of and experience with library services platforms (e.g., Ex Libris), including public and staff modules Experience with original and copy cataloging (RDA, LCSH, Library of Congress Classification) Experience maintaining bibliographic databases (authority control) Experience managing library systems, software, and technology, including SLPs and electronic resources; ability to analyze statistics from vendor platforms (e.g., Springshare) Experience providing library reference services (in-person and virtual) Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) and related resources Knowledge of library instruction methods and trends; knowledge of collection development and faculty liaison approaches Awareness of AI applications in libraries and their potential impact Flexibility to adapt to new ideas and organizational changes Experience coordinating activities across library departments or with other institutions Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals, librarians, and faculty Evidence of ongoing professional development and ability to work in a culturally diverse environment Willingness to take on new responsibilities and serve on faculty committees Strong oral and written communication skills Equivalency If you do not possess the exact degree(s) listed, complete a Request for Equivalency Form and attach it during the application process.
