The Materials Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) is excited to invite applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate level courses and support and expand curricular development in Materials and/or Chemical Engineering. Engage in scholarly work that is of high quality as evidenced by external peer review. Perform service activities at all levels of the University. Advise senior projects in their area of expertise. Salary and Conditions

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Anticipated hiring range:

$106,000 - $117,000

About Cal Poly and Diversity ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Materials Engineering (MATE) Department, with approximately 220 undergraduate students and 15 faculty, emphasizes hands-on education and collaboration to meet technical challenges. The department is considering creation of a concentration in chemical engineering. Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent (ABD candidates will be considered if the doctorate is awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment). Excellence in teaching, effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with students, staff and faculty. Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and partnerships with key stakeholders. Hands-on, student-centered teaching experience and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings; strong written and oral communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications

Excellence in university-level teaching and research; experience with laboratory-based instruction and/or industry experience. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment. Ability to teach courses and advise student projects in areas of need (ceramics and glasses) and additional areas of emphasis (fundamentals of chemical engineering). Special Conditions
