The Chicago Furniture Bank (CFB) is the largest furniture bank in the country, providing over 5,000 homes per year with free furniture to individuals and families experiencing poverty or transitioning from homelessness. Partnering with 450 social service agencies, CFB operates a 10,000-square-foot showroom where families can select their own furnishings with grace and dignity. Honest Junk Company (HJ), CFB’s social enterprise, supports and funds CFB through furniture sourcing and revenue generation. The Chicago Furniture Bank is dedicated to ending furniture poverty by repurposing and redistributing gently used furniture to individuals and families in need throughout Chicago. The Opportunity We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Truck Fleet & Warehouse Manager to lead and develop a team of ~40 laborers/drivers, 13 trucks and 100k Sq Foot facility. The Truck Fleet & Warehouse Manager will oversee all warehouse operations and the truck fleet that enables the collection and distribution of donated furniture. This role ensures safe, efficient, and organized operations while leading a team of warehouse staff, drivers, and occasional volunteers. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong logistics, safety, and fleet management experience, combined with a passion for nonprofit service and community impact.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
Lead and support a team of warehouse staff, drivers, and occasional volunteers, promoting safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Provide coaching and development opportunities to improve productivity and career growth.
Foster a positive, mission‑driven culture that emphasizes respect and dignity for staff, donors, and clients.
Provide individual performance management, including incentive, improvement plan, and termination activities.
Warehouse Operations
Manage day‑to‑day operations of the warehouse, including receiving, storing, organizing, and preparing furniture donations.
Ensure inventory accuracy, cleanliness, and compliance with safety and OSHA standards.
Supervise a team of warehouse associates and volunteers, providing training, scheduling, and performance feedback.
Develop and implement processes to improve warehouse efficiency and maximize use of space.
Fleet & Logistics Management
Oversee a fleet of trucks used for donation pickups and furniture deliveries across the Chicago area.
Schedule and dispatch drivers for efficient routes, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries.
Monitor fleet maintenance, safety inspections, fuel usage, and compliance with DOT/CDL regulations.
Manage vehicle insurance, licensing, and repair schedules.
Administration & Reporting
Track and report on key performance indicators, including delivery/pickup volume, fleet costs, and warehouse efficiency.
Work with leadership to forecast staffing, equipment, and vehicle needs.
Assist with budget planning for warehouse operations and fleet maintenance (strong financial acumen).
Oversee HR related activities such as Workers Comp claims, hours approval, payroll approval and upkeep of employee records.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in management within the warehouse, trucking, or logistics industries.
Experience managing teams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of DOT/CDL requirements and fleet safety practices.
Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
Comfortable utilizing computers, data analysis, Microsoft Suite and eventually logistics software.
Ability to lift and move furniture (50–75 lbs) with proper equipment when needed.
Valid driver’s license required; Non‑CDL Class C highly preferred.
