Overview

Database Engineer I (Supporting) at SMX Services & Consulting, Inc. Supporting the RFQ1786036 – FY26 SQL/ORACLE DBA Support. This is a data engineering role focused on building and maintaining SQL data pipelines and semantic models to power analytics and operational applications. Responsibilities

Build ELT/ETL workflows that are repeatable, testable, and auditable. Design and implement 3NF, Star, and Snowflake models on PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle. Configure job orchestration and monitoring for data workflows. Implement data quality tests (null checks, referential integrity, thresholds) and publish results. Establish CI/CD practices for data workflows (version control, peer review, gated deployments). Maintain runbooks and pipeline documentation for repeatability and knowledge transfer. Collaborate with DBAs on performance tuning, indexing strategies, and capacity planning. Support incident response and root-cause analysis related to data workflow failures. Minimum Qualifications (Required)

2–4 years of hands-on ETL/ELT development and data modeling experience. Experience designing 3NF, Star, and Snowflake schemas. Working proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle (SQL, schema objects, indexing). Familiarity with job orchestration & monitoring concepts. Experience implementing data quality tests within pipelines. Exposure to CI/CD concepts (branching, code review, automated build/deploy for data code). Strong SQL skills; ability to read execution plans and discuss trade-offs. Clear written documentation habits and teamwork mindset. Preferred (Optional – if allowed)

Experience coordinating with DBA teams on backup/restore, HA/DR, patching, change control. Basic scripting for automation (e.g., shell, PowerShell, or similar). Familiarity with ticketing/ITSM workflows and SLA-driven operations. Success Metrics / KPIs

Pipeline job success rate and client satisfaction targets (e.g., 99%). SLA adherence for job schedules, incident response, and change windows. Query performance baselines maintained or improved (with DBAs/app owners). Deliverables

Version-controlled SQL/ELT code with deployment instructions. Data model diagrams (3NF/Star/Snowflake) and data dictionaries. Runbooks for each pipeline, including schedules, dependencies, and rollback steps. Data quality test suites and scheduled reports/dashboards of results. KPI reports demonstrating job success, SLA adherence, and query performance baseline status. Collaboration & Reporting

Reports to: Data Engineering Lead / Project Manager. Partners: Oracle/SQL Server/PostgreSQL DBAs, application owners, and QA. Cadence: Stand-ups (daily/weekly per team), sprint reviews, and monthly KPI reporting. Compensation

Base pay range: $41.00/hr - $44.63/hr W-2 Pay Target: $41.00 - $44.63/hour Work Location & Schedule

Work Location: Onsite/Hybrid/Remote – TBD by RFQ/agency Schedule: Full-time, standard business hours with occasional after-hours support if SLAs require Job Details
