Job Description Summary
The Turbine Module Field Integration Systems Engineer for Evendale Defense Combat Propulsion (EDCP) leads the front-line technical support and problem solving for turbine module field issues on the F110 and J85 families of engines. EDCP is a vibrant and growing organization supporting fielded engines for the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Foreign Militaries, and NPI offerings for Turkish Aerospace and Edison Works. This position communicates directly with the customer, managing safety issues, leading field failure root cause investigations, and providing quick-response technical guidance for customer questions from the field.
Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users' needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. There is an expected high level of autonomy and operational judgement required to achieve outcomes required.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide leadership and vision to the EDCP organization for issues affecting the F110 and J85 turbine modules
Lead root cause investigations of field hardware failures, partnering with Product Support Engineering, Design Engineering, and the Failure Analysis lab
Participate in USAF and Foreign Military Safety Investigations
Provide technical expertise on Failure Modes and Effects for safety risk assessments
Provide troubleshooting expertise and technical data interpretation for customers and test operations
Travel as required to support failure investigations, Analytical Condition Inspections, and customer conferences
Establish plans and coordinate activities of multi-disciplined teams to achieve technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
Participate as a presenter or reviewer for internal/external technical and program reviews
Be a key participant or owner in developing and executing customer funded improvement programs
Assure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or a similar discipline focused on mechanical or aerothermal design) from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering position
Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
Established project management skills
Recognized as approachable, collaborative and inclusive
Strong track record of customer-facing relationship building
