Job Details Location: Ridgefield Park, NJ (Onsite)

Duration: 12 Months Contract

Senior Storage Engineer is a key member of the IT Data Center Operations team, responsible for the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage systems across multiple data centers and cloud environments. This role ensures the availability, reliability, performance, and scalability of storage and data protection services supporting critical business applications. The Senior Storage Engineer will serve as a SME, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior team members, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in storage and data management operations.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of highly available and scalable storage solutions (SAN, NAS, Object Storage) supporting enterprise workloads.

Define storage architecture standards, policies, and best practices in alignment with business continuity and disaster recovery objectives.

Operations and Support: Manage, monitor, and optimize enterprise storage systems across multiple data centers and cloud environments.

Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex storage performance or availability issues.

Maintain accurate configuration, capacity, and performance data to ensure proactive management of storage infrastructure.

Data Protection and Disaster Recovery: Oversee implementation of backup, replication, and recovery strategies using enterprise tools.

Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing, ensuring data resiliency and compliance with RPO/RTO targets.

Automation and Optimization: Automate provisioning, reporting, and maintenance tasks through scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Ansible).

Analyze performance metrics and utilization trends to optimize storage capacity, improve performance, and reduce operational costs.

Collaboration and Leadership: Partner with virtualization, network, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and performance of storage services.

Mentor junior storage and operations engineers, providing technical guidance and knowledge transfer.

Participate in capacity planning, budgeting, and vendor management activities.

Security and Compliance: Implement data encryption, access controls, and audit practices to maintain security and regulatory compliance.

Ensure adherence to ITIL-based change, incident, and problem management processes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

7+ years of experience in enterprise storage engineering or infrastructure management within large-scale data center environments.

Proven experience leading or contributing to major storage infrastructure projects and migrations.

Technical Skills: Expert-level knowledge of enterprise storage technologies such as Dell EMC (PowerMax, Unity, Isilon), NetApp ONTAP, Pure Storage, or HPE 3PAR/Nimble.

Deep understanding of SAN (Brocade/Cisco FC), NAS, and object storage architectures.

Experience with cloud storage integration (AWS S3, Azure Blob, or Google Cloud Platform Storage).

Strong background in data protection, replication, and disaster recovery technologies.

Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.

Experience managing storage for virtualized environments (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V).

Familiarity with monitoring and performance tools (SolarWinds, Grafana, Dell Unisphere, NetApp Active IQ, etc.).

Knowledge of ITIL processes, capacity planning, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to handle critical incidents under pressure; strong communication and documentation abilities; leadership and mentoring experience; sense of ownership and attention to detail.

Preferred Certifications: Dell EMC Proven Professional, NetApp NCDA, or equivalent vendor certifications; VMware VCP; ITIL Foundation or higher; cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) a plus.
