Maintenance Superintendent

Role Overview: The Maintenance Superintendent will lead an established team at Cyclyx\' cutting-edge recycling center, focusing on optimizing asset utilization and uptime for material handling and processing facilities. The role requires a hands-on manager who can build and lead teams, manage equipment maintenance for a large bulk-material handling facility, and balance leadership with individual contributor activities during startup and operation. During mechanical completion and commissioning (operational early 2026), the role supports the Plant Manager by developing processes and systems that maintain optimal plant uptime. Responsibilities include team building, personnel management (goal setting, progression, training adherence, improvement plans), and direct involvement with operations to drive process improvement. Experience: Prior leadership in complex maintenance efforts, with emphasis on Reliability; preferred experience in plastics recycling or bulk material processing at industrial scale. Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance and Reliability Preventive Maintenance Program: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all equipment, including optical sorters, conveying equipment, shredders, pelletizers, and mobile equipment; schedule regular inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and part replacements to prevent downtime. Equipment Repair and Troubleshooting: Oversee repairs, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues, and restore functionality quickly; read P&ID diagrams and OEM manuals as needed. Condition Monitoring: Use monitoring tools to track performance, analyze sensor data, and address potential failures proactively. Team Management and Training Staff Supervision: Lead and supervise maintenance teams, including hiring, training, evaluating personnel, and scheduling work to ensure shift coverage. Training and Development: Provide ongoing training, promote continuous improvement, and foster knowledge sharing. Inventory and Resource Management Spare Parts, Tools and Consumables Inventory: Manage inventory and supplier relationships to ensure timely procurement of high-quality parts. Resource Allocation: Allocate resources to balance maintenance needs with budget constraints and prioritize tasks by criticality and production impact. Process Improvement and Efficiency Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and reliability; implement best practices and innovative solutions to reduce costs and enhance performance. Root Cause Analysis: Conduct RCA for equipment failures and collaborate with operations and engineering for long-term solutions. Documentation and Reporting Maintenance Records: Maintain detailed records, use CMMS (e.g., D365, SAP or similar), and document performance metrics; establish ERP/CMMS processes during initial commissioning. Reporting: Prepare regular maintenance performance reports and communicate plans and progress to senior management and stakeholders. Safety and Compliance Safety Management: Promote a safety-first culture, implement safety procedures and lockout/tagout, conduct investigations of incidents, and perform regular safety audits and risk assessments. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, maintain maintenance records for inspections, and maintain plant cleanliness. Coordination and Collaboration Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborate with production, quality control, and engineering to align maintenance with production goals; participate in cross-functional teams and support budgets and strategies. Project Management: Lead maintenance projects (upgrades, retrofits, installations) and ensure on-time, in-scope, within-budget delivery. Industry/SME Applications: Learn about new equipment via OEM training and apply knowledge to maintenance. Experience/Knowledge Minimum 10 years in industrial Maintenance with 3 years as a department lead and 3 years in Reliability. Experience developing and implementing Preventive Maintenance and Reliability plans; CMMS experience (D365, SAP or similar). Experience with mechanical recycling equipment and processes, managing vendors/contractors, and strong communication and business acumen. Education/Training Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or specialized Mechanical preferred). Microsoft Office and ERP/CMMS experience; SCADA/PLC experience preferred.
