Minimum qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age
Be a citizen of the United States
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida
Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months
Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months
Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
This Correctional Officer Lieutenant position is located at Homestead Correctional Institution. The incumbent has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. The Officer has responsibility for supervising Correctional Officers and Correctional Officer Sergeants assigned to any security post on any of the established shifts. This position serves as the initial commander during emergency situations and functions as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Plan, organize, and coordinate activities of all Correctional Officers and Sergeants on a shift. Delegate post and duty assignments, coordinate leave, and ensure accurate attendance and leave reports. Ensure proper security coverage and conduct periodic counseling as needed. May take or recommend disciplinary action.
Supervise searches for contraband and daily inspections of buildings and grounds. Inspect physical plant for security concerns and sanitation standards. Conduct performance evaluations and coordinate training programs for subordinates.
Supervise and coordinate body cavity searches as authorized. Authorize non-emergency applications of use of force per DC Rule 33-3.0065(3).
Supervise inmates by risk level, manage housing areas, enforce rules and sanitation standards. Transport inmates with approved restraints observing relevant laws and procedures. Conduct head counts and oversee custody outside secured perimeter as needed.
Perform crisis intervention, provide emergency assistance (CPR, first aid, evacuations), and secure inmates and areas during emergencies.
Conduct inspections and surveillance of persons, property, vehicles, and areas. Ensure doors, windows, gates, and fences are secure. Attend mandatory training.
Performs other related duties as required.
