Engineering Associate / Field Engineer Description Self-directed field engineer or technician, working as part of a larger team, responsible for completing residential and commercial framing and load-bearing analysis inspections for residential structures as well as foundation inspections.

Prepares and/or reviews subsequent engineering reports. Provides excellent customer service and maintains positive client relationships. Training provided.

Responsibilities

Perform visual foundation inspections, including:

Record visual damage notes and other structure characteristics

Prepare a to-scale diagram of the structure and other pertinent field measurements

Evaluate and note terrain and drainage features surrounding the structure

Interview the homeowner (as needed)

Crawl and inspect attics or crawlspaces to identify issues as needed

Verify work has been completed if the inspection is for “post-construction” purposes

Evaluate repairs with respect to local construction codes (if necessary)

Answer property owner questions thoroughly and politely

Prepare and provide engineering data for review:

Make recommendations or verify design plans are in conformance with generally accepted engineering practices and local code

Provide neat and orderly paperwork to the office upon inspection completion

Prepare and review subsequent digital report to ensure statements and recommendations are accurate

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor or Associates of Science in Engineering or equivalent work experience in specific field

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interface and customer service

Exceptional time management skills

Additional Skills and Qualifications

Ability to utilize mobile technology to complete inspections and other responsibilities

Responsive and has a generally positive “can-do” attitude.

Willing to drive long distances (as needed)

Ability to work well against deadlines, while maintain accuracy and prioritizing multiple projects

Due to the nature of this job, applicant should be physically capable of crawling in the attic and pier and beam areas.

Ability to create construction plans for the load-bearing designs as needed
