We are seeking a highly skilled designer to develop, review, and manage electrical designs for large‑scale federal and DoD projects. The successful candidate will produce SmartPlant 3D, SmartSketch 2D, and AutoCAD drawings, perform calculations, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities
Lead or administer electrical design work for a technology business line, including detailed 2D and 3D CAD modeling and construction drawings.
Develop complete and complex electrical engineering systems with minimum supervision, ensuring design compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Assist in constructing detailed scale models and preparing material requisitions and bid evaluations.
Monitor and verify work for compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design and construction economy.
Participate in constructability reviews and coordinate design submissions.
Prepare design and drafting procedures to standardize the design effort.
Conduct site visits as needed to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
Review design scope changes for project management.
Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project, producing models, drawings, and evaluations per contract requirements.
Coach and train junior designers and coordinate activities across disciplines.
Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable trays, conduit, lighting, receptacles, and grounding in SmartPlant 3D.
Create bill of materials, installation details, lightning protection, and support details using SmartSketch and AutoCAD.
Perform lighting and ground grid calculations with AGI 32 and ETAP.
Produce interior and exterior layout, elevation, and raceway design drawings.
Develop material specifications using SpecsIntact.
Coordinate with systems engineering to verify design project requirements.
Utilize Bechtel and industry‑proven design concepts and procedures.
Qualifications
AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7–8 years of related experience, or 9–12 years of experience without a degree.
Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
Experience with electronic cable‑management systems such as SETROUTE.
Strong collaboration skills across disciplines with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
Hands‑on experience with SmartPlant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with engineering and office automation tools.
Broad knowledge of electrical system design principles, schematics, and layouts.
Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guidelines and standards.
Thorough understanding of deliverables such as drawings and specifications.
Ability to express technical issues clearly and resolve design issues collaboratively.
Experience modeling piping, HVAC, and mechanical equipment in SmartPlant 3D.
Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience; familiarity with ISO‑9000 quality assurance programs.
