In the Import Specialist role, you will be a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for all import requirements. Typical work assignments include: Determining admissibility of merchandise and making other import-related decisions. Screening entry document packages for full range of regulatory and legal requirements. Verifying tariff classification and appraising imported articles and products. Locations

Experience : You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you have 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, performing duties such as explaining procedures to elicit cooperative responses, gathering and evaluating facts and evidence for claims or investigations, and applying knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to the importation of merchandise into the United States. Your resume must clearly demonstrate how you meet this requirement. Education Substitution : One year of full-time graduate education or Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may substitute for the experience. See the announcement for specifics on class standing, GPA, and honors society requirements, and how to combine education and experience to meet the total requirement. Other requirements : You must meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable. The online assessment is required, and the process may include a background investigation. Residency requirements apply, and a one-year probationary period is typical for new federal employees.
