Job Summary The Research Manager will oversee operations of the Bioinformatics Central core, including staffing, training, consulting, and grant support. The role leads development of core resources, provides research support to faculty and staff, and ensures long‑term sustainability of the core.
Responsibilities
Determine core needs and set strategic, scientific, and operational priorities with core Scientific Directors.
Manage staffing, recruitment, and development of core staff; oversee database and interface design.
Coordinate monthly seminars, trainings, and user groups; develop funding models to sustain operations.
Lead grant applications related to core projects and secure collaborative funding.
Implement scalable workflows to disseminate analytical advances.
Participate in national/international efforts to establish best practices and standards for omics and clinical data integration.
Plan, monitor and manage the department budget.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. with at least one year of applicable experience and prior supervisory experience, OR
Master’s with ≥ 5 years of grant/resource management and supervisory experience, OR
Bachelor’s with ≥ 8 years of grant/resource management and supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Experience in bioinformatics support for diverse scientific projects.
Knowledge of public bioinformatics data, genomics tools, single‑cell analysis, gene expression.
Software development and scripting proficiency (SQL, Unix, R, Bioconductor, Python).
Advanced database design and maintenance skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
In-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and policies relevant to high‑dimensional data analysis.
Leadership of multidisciplinary teams and large projects.
Customer service orientation and operational initiative.
Confidentiality, strong written and verbal communication, and Microsoft Office proficiency.
Shift / Salary / Benefits Pay Band:
B12 Salary Minimum:
$62,300 – $65,000 (commensurate with qualifications). Recruitment Period:
5/16/24 – Until Filled • Health, dental, life insurance; Teachers Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan. • Vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. • Tuition Assistance Program for eligible employees.
