Assistant Professor (Open Rank) – Medical Physicist Location: Augusta University Job ID: 278518 The Georgia Cancer Center and the Department of Radiation Oncology, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, are seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor as a medical physicist. The applicant should be ABR certified or board eligible in Therapeutic Radiation Physics and hold at least a PhD in Medical Physics or related fields. The successful candidate will provide medical physics service in daily clinical operation, participate in residents and students’ education, and engage in research in the Medical Physics division. This position is not on tenure track.

Responsibilities

Patient Care (Clinical): Provide clinical radiation medical physics services for precise planning and treatment of cancer patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Augusta University and Georgia Cancer Center, with direct communication with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, Nurses, and Therapists.

Review treatment plans, weekly chart evaluations, machine performance, and quality assurance (monthly and annual) measurements and documentation for all equipment used in the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Assist in implementing new technology while ensuring safety and quality of radiation therapy in clinical service.

Participate in Georgia Cancer Center and Department of Radiation Oncology research and clinical trials.

Appear on Georgia Cancer Center and Cancer Service Line Scientific and Operational Committees as requested.

Develop further metrics of clinical success with the Director of Medical Physics and the Chair on a yearly basis.

Support other faculty in obtaining extramural funding.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Teaching/Instructions

Play a key role in the Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency Program.

Provide education and training to Medical Physics Residents, including clinical supervision and didactic activities.

Participate in Georgia Cancer Center and Department of Radiation Oncology teaching activities.

Educator’s portfolio and Faculty Evaluation forms will reflect scholarly, research, and section/department activities.

Required Qualifications

PhD or equivalent in Medical Physics or related fields; ABR certified or board eligible in Therapeutic Radiation Physics.

Assistant Professor – Early career with appropriate post-graduate training.

Associate Professor – Mid-level career with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent.

Professor – Senior-level career with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.

UsG faculty employment qualifications: evidence of teaching ability, scholarly activity, and other qualifications as described (as applicable to all USG institutions and ranks).

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical operation experience, teaching experience in Medical Physics Residency Program, and research collaboration experience with colleagues.

Shift/Salary/Benefits The position is fiscal year-based and year-round. The position is full-time (FTE 1.0).

Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to fund availability.
