Introduction The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer, capable of conducting complex criminal and general investigations in a fair and impartial manner while maintaining strict confidentiality. The position will implement crime scene procedures, evidence retention, and complete comprehensive investigative reports. This position, in accordance with Federal and State and local laws, will also conduct interviews, interrogations, and liaison with the Maryland State Police, MOU regarding criminal investigations at MDH facilities. The selected candidate will be required to have knowledge and understanding of Maryland criminal laws and MDH policies and procedures. In addition, this position will enforce all appropriate Federal, State, and local laws in a fair and impartial manner. The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license to operate State vehicles and provide medical and judicial transports for forensic patients. The selected candidate must possess investigative abilities as well as good writing and oral communication skills. The selected candidate will be mandated to actively maintain their Maryland Police and Corrections Commission, (Police Officer) Certification and Special Police Commission. Location

Serve as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer. Conduct complex criminal and general investigations with confidentiality and impartiality. Implement crime scene procedures and evidence retention; complete investigative reports. Conduct interviews and interrogations; liaise with MD State Police and internal MDH operations for criminal investigations at MDH facilities. Enforce applicable Federal, State, and local laws. Possess and maintain MD driver’s license; operate state vehicles and provide medical/judicial transports for forensic patients. Demonstrate investigative abilities along with strong writing and oral communication skills. Maintain Mary land Police and Corrections Commission certification and Special Police Commission as required. Note
This position may be reassigned to different shifts, or recalled during weekends, holidays, or off hours to meet Investigative and Operational needs of the MDH Police Department. All MDH Police Officers with the rank of Lieutenant and below will be assigned an on-call status on a rotating basis when off duty. Minimum Qualifications
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Selection standards for Police Officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship Must be at least 21 years of age Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history Oral interview Physical examination Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Selection Process
