We are a 30-person, dynamic and growing engineering firm known for delivering innovative and high-quality solutions to our clients. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Part‑Time Controller to join our team and oversee our financial operations.
The Part‑Time Controller will be responsible for overseeing and managing the firm’s accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with best practices, and contributing to strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business accounting and experience in a professional services environment. This role also includes supervising our existing billing specialist, who handles client invoicing and day‑to‑day billing activities. Familiarity with Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint software is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements
Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger account reconciliations
Oversee the work of the current billing specialist, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in client invoicing
Monitor project costing and profitability
Work closely with company leadership to prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports
Ensure compliance with relevant tax laws, regulations, and internal controls
Support external CPA with annual tax filings and audits
Recommend and implement improvements to financial processes and systems
Provide financial insights and reports to aid in strategic planning and decision‑making
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
CPA or CMA designation preferred
5+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a professional services or engineering/architecture firm
Proficiency with Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint strongly preferred
Solid knowledge of GAAP and business accounting principles
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Work Schedule & Growth Opportunity
Approximately 20 hours per week following initial training period
Potential for increased hours and responsibilities as the company continues to grow
Flexible schedule: remote/hybrid arrangements may be considered depending on candidate location and experience
The pay range is expected to be between $46.00 to $60.00 per hour. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. Part‑time employees are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) and may be able to qualify for other benefits depending on plan eligibility requirements.
