Overview This position performs technical services in conjunction with the maintenance, operation, inspection, and testing of a variety of electrical and control systems equipment. The EIT shall be knowledgeable of electrical and instrumentation equipment used in wastewater process control systems. The incumbent will report to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Technical Controls Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
Perform a variety of skilled electrical/instrumentation maintenance work, including electrical fundamentals, automated controls, electrical monitoring, general instrumentation application, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controls), electric motors, motor control centers, motor drives, electrical circuits and components, and emergency power systems;
Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical system problems and plan corrective action as needed;
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, process control, drives and actuators, instrumentation and telemetry equipment;
Mentor and train operators and technicians on proper electrical and instrumentation maintenance and procedures;
Ensure that all E & I work orders are updated and completed accurately;
Maintain proficiency through continuing education on electrical and instrumentation, including NEC code changes;
Is considered essential personnel and works on call 24 hours per day for emergency response as needed; also works additional hours, weekends, holidays, etc., as needed;
In the absence of the Technical Controls Supervisor, provides direct support to the Metro WWTP management team; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Associate’s degree in electrical/instrumentation, electronics or a closely related field is preferred;
Four (4) years of relevant prior experience as an industrial electrician, to include experience in instrumentation and controls troubleshooting and repair is preferred;
Must be competent in reading and updating wiring diagrams;
Must be familiar with current NEC code book for South Carolina;
Be able to obtain both a Level “D” Biological Wastewater Treatment Operator certification AND level “D” Wastewater Collection Operator certification within two (2) years from date of hire; and,
Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes;
Basic computer knowledge with preferred skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, Kronos, Cornerstone, Target Solutions and other such programs;
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety;
Ability to supervise or lead others as described above;
Ability to read technical instructions, procedures, manuals, blueprints, plans and charts; and,
Ability to communicate clearly via the spoken and written word.
