Patrol Officer (Lateral/Certified/Recent Law Enforcement Officer Retiree Only) FT, IF3NPATROLPSP Join the College of DuPage as a Patrol Officer. This full‑time position provides services and protection for College properties, students, faculty, staff, and guests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Enforce College rules and regulations related to traffic, parking, building use, and campus activities.

Apply state statutes, city and county ordinances, and campus policies as required for the protection of College properties and people.

Assist other local police agencies on campus when requested.

Respond to vehicle accidents, thefts, disturbances, injuries, illnesses, assaults, and other incidents; take initial reports and conduct investigations.

Provide basic first aid and patient care until advanced medical treatment is available.

Assist with building access, lock/unlock doors, and vehicle lockouts.

Perform visible vehicle and foot patrols; report suspicious activity.

Make arrests and take necessary station adjustments.

Qualify at department range qualification shoots and adhere to all departmental rules and procedures.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required; Basic Law Enforcement Academy approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB); preference for an AA or BS in Criminal Justice or related field.

Experience:

Must be a sworn Illinois certified Police Officer who left prior department in good standing within 365 days of hiring; 1–5 years law‑enforcement experience preferred; experience on a college campus preferred.

COD training:

Bloodborne Pathogens; Hazardous Communications.

Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license with good driving record.

Must complete Emergency Medical Responder training and maintain certification.

Must pass a physical, drug test, and psychological examination at College expense.

Working Conditions

Firearms, squad car, teletype, portable FM, restraining devices, chemical mace, first‑aid equipment, fire extinguishers, and other routine police equipment.

Exposure to outdoor weather year‑round.

Shift work covering a 24‑hour, 7‑day week with shift rotation; overtime may be required on short notice.

Minimum age 21 years.

Physical requirements: no amputation of any limb, no color blindness; no limitation on mobility.

Hiring Range

Per contract, up to step 3 on the wage scale; competitive starting pay dependent on education and experience.
