Patrol Officer (Lateral/Certified/Recent Law Enforcement Officer Retiree Only)

Full‑time, IF3NPATROLPSP Location:
College of DuPage (Northlake, IL)
College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago and has been an essential part of the local area for over 50 years. Students pursue nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates on our 273‑acre campus. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide services and protection for College properties, interests, students, faculty, supportive staff, and guests.
Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to traffic and parking, posting notices, distributing tracts and pamphlets, assemblages of persons, and use of building and grounds.
Enforce applicable state statutes, city, and county ordinances when required to protect College properties, interests, students, faculty, supportive staff, and guests.
Assist other police agencies surrounding the College upon request, if duties do not remove an officer from campus.
Take initial reports of vehicular accidents, thefts, disturbances, injuries, illnesses, assaults, batteries, deaths, and other crimes and incidents; interview victims and witnesses and investigate matters to obtain evidence, recover property, prepare cases for court, and refer to other agencies for corrective action.
Provide basic first aid and patient care as required until advanced medical treatment is available, per EMR guidelines.
Provide information and directions, lock and unlock buildings and rooms, assist motorists locked out of vehicles, render first aid, monitor, report, and take necessary action in severe weather or similar emergencies, direct vehicular traffic on and off campus, provide protective escorts, restrain mentally or emotionally disturbed persons, and provide other similar services.
Provide visible preventative vehicle and foot patrols on campus and report suspicious activities that appear criminal in nature.
Make arrests and perform station adjustments when necessary.
Successfully qualify on department range qualification shoots.
Adhere to department and college rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) required.
An AA and/or BS Degree in Criminal Justice or related fields preferred.
Experience:
Must be sworn Illinois certified Police Officer and have left prior department or agency in ‘good standing’ within 365 days of hiring.
1 to 5 years of law enforcement or related experience preferred.
Experience with a college campus environment preferred.
COD Training:
Bloodborne Pathogens
Hazardous Communications
Working Conditions and Job Requirements
Firearms, squad car, teletype, portable FM, restraining devices, chemical mace, first‑aid equipment, fire extinguishers, and other routine police equipment.
Exposure to outdoor weather year round.
Shift work covering 24‑hour, 7‑day week with shift rotation.
Possible overtime on short notice.
Days off assigned according to schedule.
Personal:
Minimum age 21. Good driver’s record with Illinois Secretary of State or other state. Complete Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Complete Emergency Medical Responder training and maintain certification.
Physical:
No limb amputation. No color blindness. Must pass a physical, drug screen, and psychological examination at College expense.
Hiring Range Per contract, up to step 3 on the wage scale.
Good review of past performance required.
No written exam required.
Power Card must be presented at the time of offer and be valid within the last year.
