Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations and develops a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for guests and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager. Responsibilities
Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly; respond to questions/concerns quickly, effectively, and courteously; assist guests with gaming needs; inform guests of promotions; recommend additional items; apply selling behaviors during every transaction; thank guests for shopping at GameStop; circulate throughout the store to prioritize guests over tasks. Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business. Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS system, including making correct changes, bagging merchandise, providing receipts, and ensuring top-notch guest service. Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate. Promote GameStop’s guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations, trade-in, and Pro Rewards programs). Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations for associates and training on company/store policies and guidelines. Observe associate performance and provide timely feedback; address unsatisfactory performance as directed to ensure alignment with guest service expectations. Provide recognition and feedback to store associates; document written feedback in the Workday/HR system in partnership with the Store Manager. Ensure onboarding and training are completed prior to opening/closing shifts; associates should know all job aspects including policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, and ethics. Schedule store associates to follow guidelines; supervise staffing to maintain optimal guest service and ensure consistency of high-quality service. Approve payroll, manage paid time off and edits, and verify pay for time worked. Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per company guidelines; ensure fixtures and equipment are in proper working order. Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily. Protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention; inspect packages at closing as appropriate; communicate concerns to the Store Manager. Support the team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative responsibilities. Perform store inventory counts, restock merchandise, and move products to ensure representation and organization on the sales floor. Count, balance, and reconcile daily POS totals; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits per guidelines. Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and communicate issues to the Store/District Manager. Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls with proper labeling and packing. Maintain associate and guest safety; report injuries promptly per guidelines. Maintain store records/files neatly; ensure manuals are up to date. Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager. Adhere to GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct. Adhere to opening and closing procedures. Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred. At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred. At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred. Video game knowledge preferred. Outgoing, welcoming personality with strong people skills; provide genuine, individualized guest assistance. Clear verbal and written communication in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and work independently or in a team; meet performance expectations including attendance and safety. Operate POS system; basic math and alphabetizing skills; complete required paperwork properly. Flexibility to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and some holidays (minimum 3 days/week availability). Ability to work alone or move about the store for up to 12 hours; physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and reach appropriate heights. Understanding of store policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, and ethics; on-the-job onboarding may include military rank insignia if applicable.
