ERM is hiring a
Utility Safety Advisor
(Field Based) in
Fort Worth, Texas . As a Utility Safety Advisor, you will engage with client and contractor team members in the field to facilitate safe work practices, identify hazards and advise mitigations, embrace client safety culture expectations, adhere to applicable project permits, and maintain compliance with the client’s Contractor Safety Program elements and other applicable safety regulations by local, state, and federal safety agencies. The role promotes a safe work environment by ensuring that contractors and the project team clearly understand roles and responsibilities related to reviewing drawings, identifying hazards, and communicating policies, standards, and procedures. The position includes timely notification to management and the safety team about safety issues. This is a full-time role for a duration of 3 months, extendable.
Responsibilities
Provide quality assurance and quality control observation for electrical safety inspectors. Observe contractor safety inspectors and conduct audits and reviews of work practices, work products, and skillsets of contractors’ safety inspectors. Promote high-voltage electrical safety during site inspection and the implementation of medium and high-risk scope activities. Initiate and/or participate in safety kick-off, periodic or daily safety meetings with contractors. Function as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations (including, but not limited to, DOT and OSHA) as well as industry best practices. Perform contractor safety observations as established by the frequency and level for each contractor and subcontractor. Provide on-site occupational safety support to identify, prevent, and mitigate safety risks. Document and retain safety documents in accordance with client requirements. Assign and/or coordinate with team members to address corrective actions, and communicate as appropriate with team members to prevent repeat occurrences. Receive safety-related questions and provide reliable feedback and instruction. Share safety information in an impactful, constructive, and results-oriented manner. Communicate safety trends and recommend safety corrective actions. Prepare safety observation and improvement reports to Management and/or client following an incident or high-potential consequence near miss. Support compliance with applicable programs (PPE, rubber gloving, and hot stick procedures). Capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions that are unsanitary or dangerous. Requirements
High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a journeyman lineman in construction within the power utility sector and 2 years of safety experience. Relevant experience overseeing and inspecting construction contractors working on high voltage electrical underground distribution projects, including high voltage installations, pole installation/replacement, direct burial installation, underground termination, and underground repair. Working knowledge with Electric Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution standards (29 CFR 1910.269). Experience in transmission and distribution work, underground and with numerous voltages. Technical expertise including lifting/rigging, working from heights, personal protective grounding, temporary wiring, disconnect and overcurrent protection, ground-fault protection, minimum approach distances, arc-flash protection, rack in and rack out procedures for relay and breaker work, and protections related to flashover and related hazards. Specialized experience overseeing and inspecting construction contractors working on high voltage electrical transmission line projects, including lattice tower erection/replacement, pole installation/replacement, direct burial pole installation, bell repair/installation, foundation installation and inspection, clipping and wire pulling. Ability to wear PPE and fire-resistant clothing. Formal training to identify and mitigate hazards associated with specific high-risk activities. Familiar with managing contractor safety for utility operations. Familiar with OSHA safety regulations and requirements. OSHA 30-hour required. Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week in a physically demanding capacity and in inclement weather. Physical ability to stand and/or walk for long hours on uneven terrain and variable weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record. Preferred Qualifications
